Direct Line and Brake want drug driving action

Author: Filip Sober - Categories: Motorcycle Insurance - Tags: Direct Line, Driving, Drug Driving -

Direct Line Car Insurance and road safety charity Brake have called upon the Government to push through measures aimed at tackling drug driving, following a survey which reveals that 11% of young drivers have driven whilst under the influence of drugs during the last year.

In addition, the survey revealed that 3% of young drivers drove whilst under the influence of drugs at least once a month.

The Government is being asked to close a loophole by introducing a new criminal offence of driving whilst under the influence of illegal drugs, and the introduction of roadside drug screening devices.

Director of Motor Underwriting and Pricing for Direct Line Car Insurance Andy Goldby stated that drug driving is as irresponsible as drink driving and called for more action and for loopholes in the law to be closed.

Dec 1, Engine knocking after accident.

Author: Filip Sober - Categories: Motorcycle Insurance - Tags: Accident -

I was recently involved in an accident where I was rear ended. The resulting crash pushed me into a tree where my vehicle (2006 Lincoln Navigator) was stuck on a large rock. It had to be towed/pulled off of the rock.

This caused some damage to the under carriage including a hole in the oil pan. The shop where the vehicle is located has informed me that my engine is knocking.

They have yet to do any work on he truck as they are waiting for the adjuster to look at it. I’ve been told that I now have a knocking sound coming from the engine which suggests damage from running on low/no oil. Prior to the accident I had no such problems.

Telematics encourage safer driving

Author: Filip Sober - Categories: Motorcycle Insurance - Tags: Encourage, Encourage Safer -

Britains young drivers are being encouraged to drive more safely thanks to the introduction of telematics technology, according to The Co-operative Insurance.

More than a third (35%) of drivers are driving in an excellent way, with a small proportion (5%) guilty of poor driving.

The Young Driver scheme was launched earlier this year and measures a number of driving behaviours, such as cornering and speed.

The behaviours are scored from one to five (poor to excellent respectively) and those who score well on a consistent basis are rewarded with premium discounts.

At present 97% of male drivers have received discounts, slightly ahead of women, of whom 92% have earnt a discount.

Director of General Insurance David Neave said that the figures showed that motorists were responded to the firms carrot approach, adding that, whilst the telematics scheme was in its infancy, there was great potential for even more safe driving by using the available technology.

Yesterday ABI Director General Otto Thoresen praised the use of telematic black box systems that encourage safer driving.
