Aug 27, Parking lot liability

Author: Filip Sober - Categories: Motorcycle Insurance - Tags: 27 Parking, Parking -

my wife was pulling into a parking space with her small sedan and was 3/4 the way in when a suv park to the right of her just thru her door open into our right front fender without even looking.

The driver got out of there car with the look of sorry my 15yo son was in the passenger seat and saw everything now the driver saying the door was open and we ran into it.

We both have the same insurance company.

What should we do and who would be at fault our story is the truth.

Answer:

Hello Rick,

Well, you have to show that your story is the truth. Evidence by witnesses and/or maybe a video recording of the parking lot (if it was a commercial parking lot) may be the answer.

Even if the open the door without looking, there is still a responsibility on the driver of your car to look and ensure that no one is exiting the vehicle (i.e. a child).

If your girlfriend did not see anyone in the car, then this may be a problem.

Co-operative give cash back to safe young drivers

Author: Filip Sober - Categories: Motorcycle Insurance - Tags: Drivers, Young Drivers -

Almost nine out of 10 motorists with The Co-operative’s Young Driver insurance will find more than £100 added to their accounts, having proven themselves safe drivers.

Drivers who have kept to speed limits, not partaken of excessive braking/acceleration and avoided racing around corners will be rewarded by the cashback scheme.

The manner of driving is monitored by ‘Smartbox’ telematics technology, scoring behaviour every 90 days, with a partial premium refund provided for those who score highly in the speeding, cornering, braking and acceleration, and time of day of driving categories.

Director of General Insurance David Neave was enthusiastic about telematics, saying that the new technology offered an antidote to the rapidly rising motor premiums that have particularly hit young drivers hard.

Neave added that the firms reward scheme was only in its infancy but was optimistic that it could work well on a much larger scale.

The Young Driver motor insurance product was first launched in March with a view to helping younger drivers enjoy lower premiums, whilst at the same time promoting safer driving.

BMW and Allianz announce new partnership

Author: Andrew Carter - Categories: Motorcycle Insurance - Tags: New, New Partnership -

BMW Financial Services and Allianz Insurance have announced a new partnership to provide BMW and MINI drivers in the UK with Car, Home and Travel Insurance products.

BMW has an arrangement with Allianz that includes Shortfall, Income Protection and Tyre Insurance and other services.

Under the terms of the new agreement Allianz will underwrite the BMW/MINI customers’ Car, Home and Travel Insurance and provide, via approved dealerships, 7 Day Free Car Insurance.

Customers will be able to opt for a tailored package that suits their particular needs by taking out core coverage and then adding optional extra coverage to augment their protection as they see fit.

Leanne Thames, sales development manager for insurance and banking at BMW Financial Services, described the move as the realisation of a strategic objective to consolidate all of BMW’s insurance product range with a single partner.

Thames went on to say that the firm had collaborated with Allianz since 2009 and appreciated their first class service and products.

Last year Allianz offered BMW/MINI customers a customised Tyre Insurance product, following other exclusive offerings including Income Protection and Shortfall Insurance products.

Independence and Low Rates: Drive Safe on the Fourth of July

Author: Filip Sober - Categories: Motorcycle Insurance -

This weekend marks 135 years of American independence, and with parties and parades planned from Portland to Philadelphia, it’s the biggest birthday bash of the entire year. The long holiday weekend means backyard picnics and BBQs, fireworks and flags, sun tea and sparklers.

Unfortunately, it also means more drunk drivers on the road than any other weekend of the year. According to MSN Money, the Fourth of July is the number one holiday for alcohol-related fatal crashes.

You may already know this, but did you also know that a DUI can triple your car insurance premium for as long as 5 years? That means that if you pay $150 a month now, your premium could increase to $450 a month. S
