The British Motorcyclists Federation is happy to see the hole in one licence renewal procedure. After much pressure applied by the British Motorcycle Federation, Motorcycle News, and lobbyists, the DVLA will be giving motorcyclists their original licence back when they receive a replacement licence. The original licence that they receive back will have a hole punched through it; this is done to invalidate the licence.
Motorbike insurance from The Bike Insurer This new process of punching holes in old licences to invalidate them has been incorporated because of disputed entitlements over licence categories forcing riders to have to take an additional driving test just because they were not able to prove prior entitlements that they had attained. This decision to let riders have their original licence back with a hole punched through it comes after months of persistent lobbying over giving replacement licences to bikers seeking a replacement licence due to events such as a change of address, loss of licence, renewal etc. The bikers found that after getting a replacement licence realized that their replacement licence did not have the Category A motorcycle entitlement. The problem was that bikers needed a way to provide evidence of previous entitlements, since photocopies and other written forms of proof have never been acceptable to the DVLA, so the bmf lobbied for the hole in the original licence procedure. Placing a hole in a biker’s original licence is a solution that can save bikers a lot of hassle and can be a benefit to all the parties involved.
