Did  you know that approximately £30 of your annual car insurance premium has been added to your overall costs as a result of the fact that there are uninsured drivers on the road? For once, insurance companies are not to blame for this but your fellow motorist (or at least some of them) is. With more than 3.3 million drivers being in an accident with an uninsured driver, which equates to 10% of all accidents, it is no wonder that cheap car insurance is in jeopardy as a direct result.

These figures come from a study by Brake, the road safety charity, so they have no bias whatsoever. As a result, the figures are even more disturbing that they would normally be. For example, in all accidents that involve an uninsured driver, 25% have at least one injury, 4% have at least one fatality, 17% see the uninsured driver flee the scene, 32% see an uninsured driver claim that he or she is insured and 23% tried to avoid the other party making a claim. It just goes to show that the availability of cheap car insurance has not cured all problems on the road.
